Abyss Creations is a manufacturer based in San Marcos, California. The company was founded in 1996. Abyss Creations is owned by Matt McCullen.
As of 2011, there were nine female bodies and 16 female faces in the first product line. In 2009, the RealDoll 2 was introduced, which feature removable inserts for the mouth and vagina and faces that attach by magnets instead of Velcro. The line started with two female bodies and three female faces and was expanded until 2013 to ten faces and three bodies.
In 2008, the company produced between 350 and 400 dolls per annum 1. The three largest international markets are Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Since mid-2010 over 4,000 dolls have been created and shipped 2.
One of McMullens early business partners was Matt Krivicke (aka Matt K.), who worked for Abyss Creations since 1996 as a entry level support technician; Krivicke later became CEO and Creative Director and left Abyss Creations in May 2008 to found his own company, Knighthorse.
In 2009, Matt McMullen sued Matt Krivicke and claimed that Krivicke had stolen his concept. Krivicke lost in court and had to discontinue the Lovable Dolls product line 3
