Weekly summary 41/2020

Hi,

this is a summary of what was going in the doll world in the 41st week of 2020, as far as we at Dollstudio & DS Doll Europe were concerned.

1) Novel Coronavirus situation.

a) The pandemic situation in general. The total amount of daily new 'cases' is reported to increase again. On average, it is slightly above 350,000 per day. Most active hot spots in the past week were India, the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, Russia, France, the UK and Spain.

The number of total confirmed 'cases' has exceeded 37 million; as of today, it is at 37,640,385. As of today, 1,079,555 deaths were recorded.

However, it is increasingly important to distinguish between actual cases with the Covid-19 disease and tests which indicate the existence of antibodies. A positive test result is not the same as a current disease, and the currently reported new 'cases' can not be directly compared to the reported cases back in March and April.

In some areas, new non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) have been installed. For example, in Berlin bars and restaurants are required to close at 23 hrs, and gatherings are restricted. Also, citizens of the German capital are not allowed to travel. Spending the night outside of of home can be punished (the one who houses is made the offender, not the guest). By continuing to brew a horrible economic desaster, it appears that some governments are calling for civil unrest.

b) Impact on the doll business. All Chinese manufacturers have resumed business one-week-holidays around the National Day of China. However, many sales agents keep responding with dalays or not at all. Things are not back to normal as it was before the pandemic, respectively the 'New Normal' is that sometimes things move on a bumpy road.

2) New arrivals.

This week, two new heads were introduced:

• SE Doll ›Chloe‹ (SE no. 093) - TPE
• WM Dolls WMS no. 3 - silicone

New head variants of older heads:

• Piper Doll ›Ariel‹ - silicone variant
• Piper Doll ›Jessica‹ - silicone variant

Also, two new body styles were released:

• New arrivals: Piper Silicone PI-150/K aka ›Jessica‹ by Piper Doll - silicone / ~150 cm / ~36 kg
• New arrivals: WM Dolls WMS-165/D body style - silicone / 165 cm / 36 kg

3) Business updates, technical updates and dolls in development.

In this new regular column I will report about things like noteworthy events and model line changes.

The National Day of China holidays are finished and manufacturing facilities have resumed to work.

The DH168 group reduced the number of available wigs from 32 (before) to 10 (as of 10/2020). The other wigs remain available as long as current stock lasts, but they can not/will not be restocked. This applies for the brands Doll Forever, Doll House 168 (2019 series), and Piper Doll.

Gynoid Tech had added more eye colors a while ago (grey, brown, blue, purple). As of now, the available eye colors for Callies, Yui, and Jingjing have been reduced to grey and brown.
